06 nights / 7 days Cycling Tour in Sri Lanka

Day 01 : Arrival / Negombo

Upon arriving in Sri Lanka meet and assist at the airport by our representative and transfer to Negombo from the Bandaranayake International Airport for your first night.

NEGOMBO town is a historically interesting place strongly influenced by the Catholic Church. The Narrow strip of land between the lagoon & the sea and the many canals make for a good exploring.

The Dutch captured the town from the Portuguese in 1640, lost it again in the same year, and then captured it again in 1644. The British then took it from them in 1796 without a struggle. Negombo was one of the most important sources of cinnamon during the Dutch era, and there are still reminders of the European days.

Day 02 : Negombo / Dambulla

After breakfast we start riding directly from the hotel along the old coastal road keeping the sea on our left we pass the distinctive patchwork sails of the "Karavas" fishing communities. You will be greeted by the smiling local faces who are happy to see you on the bike.

Boats pulled up the shore or sailing just off the coast make excellent photos as does the many fish markets you'll cycle past. We leave the coast road after cycling for 30 km and head inland on quiet back roads that give you the country flavor of Sri Lanka. You can see and experience the change of life styles of people.

After 30km we rack up the bikes and transfer by vehicle for 3 hours to Dambulla, en route we break for lunch at local restaurant near the Kununegala Lake.

After lunch by the lake side local restaurant continue your journey to Dambulla. Visit the Dambula cave temple.

After 20km ride we arrive at Sigiriya old water gardens we'll park the bikes and walk through the old water gardens.

On the climb of 300m to the view the ruins of King Kasyapa's summer palace on the summit. To distract us from the walk up we'll pass the impressive frescos that depict more than 500 ladies.

----------The spectacular Sigiriya Rock fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 5th century and no matter how often you climb to the summit of this one-time fortress of the murderous, maverick, yet brilliant Sinhalese king "Kassapa" the pleasure barely diminishes. Many scholars believe that Kassapa sought to rule as a God-king. About two hours can happily be spent walking through its water gardens, and then up the steep steps - either hewn out of the rock or on circular iron staircases - past the frescoes. You will be in no rush to abandon the spectacular views at the summit.

Abandoned in the 13th Century, it was rediscovered in the 18th Century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the chiseled stone monuments show us the glory of the ancient Rajarata Kingdom. After seeing the main sites we'll have a 20 minute transfer to our hotel.
