Family Cycling Tour - 12 nights / 13 Days

Day 01 : Arrival / Waikkal

Upon arriving in Sri Lanka meet and assist at the airport by our representative and transfer to Waikkal from the Bandaranayake International Airport where you will stay two nights at Waikkal Beach - perfect for relaxing after your long flight.

Waikkal Beach provides an excellent base for exploring the sights of Negombo in-depth. With a wide number of attractions to discover, this sought-after part of town will not cease to amaze you. Waikkal Beach is blessed with lively surroundings, fine restaurants, shopping areas and stunning attractions.

Day 02 : Waikkal

After Breakfast you can discover the elegant and serene cathedrals decorating the townscape, each a unique haven dedicated to different saints which have earned the town the title "Little Rome".

Journey into the island's colonial era by touring the Old Dutch Fort Gate which was built in 1672 and now forms a part of the city's prison complex. The Dutch Canal is a fascinating waterway which functioned as a supply route to the Dutch administration during the time of colonization.

Journey to the charming little beach enclave of Kalpitiya, one of the best locations on the island for Dolphin-watching tours, Kite surfing and Kayaking.

In the evening relax at the beach.

Day 03 : Waikkal / Sigiriya

After a hearty breakfast we will get set up with our bikes. There will be a safety briefing and information about riding in Sri Lanka.

We then head inland along small country lanes very typical of the area with coconut grooves and marshlands on both sides of the roads. Mid-morning we end the ride and jump onto the Vehicle driving to Sigiriya, The riding today is mostly flat with plenty of stops along the way to get acclimatized to the heat. There will be time this afternoon to relax by the pool or explore the hotel's tropical grounds.

Cycling - 30km. (Easy)

Day 04 : Sigiriya / Village Safari / Sigiriya.

After Breakfast We'll ride through the countryside on a mix of tarmac and red dirt roads passing orchards, paddy fields and elephant grass. Riding along the shores of Kandalama Lake we'll have excellent views of the ancient 5th century rock fortress Sigiriya (Lion Rock), our destination.

We'll park the bikes and walk through the old water gardens before climbing 300m to the view the ruins of King Kasyapa's summer palace on the summit. To distract us from the walk up we'll pass the impressive frescos that depict more than 500 ladies.

Sigiriya - Sigiriya is a massive rock which was transformed into a citadel during the reign of King Kasyapa, according to history. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. The rock fortress is famous for its frescoes and the mirror wall. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka.

After decent you can enjoy a cool drink of king coconut thambili.

In the evening you can enjoy the village safari.

And also on the way you can experience the boat ride.

Day 05 : Sigiriya / Habarana / Polonnaruwa.

After breakfast take a short ride through Nature reserve to Habarana.
We set off today cycling through a small nature reserve to Harbana. With jungle on both sides of the road we may see or hear a few peacocks and monkeys along the route.

Explore Paddy fields.

After ride we will transfer to Polonnaruwa by Vehicle. Afternoon cycle tour of ancient ruins.

The riding today is mainly flat along mostly good tarmac road with a slight undulation on the way back to the hotel.

The circular relic house (Vata-da-ge) Lankathilaka, Thuparama, Royal Palace, Rankoth vihara and Galvihara with the beautiful rock cut Buddha statues are the most interesting.

Cycling – 30km. (easy)

Day 06 : Polonnaruwa / Minneriya / Polonnaruwa.

We start today with a short transfer before jumping on our bikes to explore the lovely quiet village roads. We start to see the real rural life of Sri Lanka with strange dry zone crops like drumstick gourd, manoke and tikeri. We'll have the opportunity to taste them.

Late afternoon we drive to Minneriya National Park to take part in a game drive. The park is a feeding ground for Elephants that dwell in the nearby forests and our expert park ranger will be able to help us spot some of these graceful creatures. The park is also an important habitat for many species of monkey as well as Sambar Deer and a huge range of large water birds such as storks and pelicans.

The riding today is on flat dirt roads and there will be almost no traffic.

Cycling – 20km. (Easy)

Day 07 : Polonnaruwa / Kandy.

Setting off straight from the hotel this morning we follow a lake and it's 6km man-made dam to the source; the Amban Ganga River. The great lake known as the sea of Parakrama is the life of the area, colorful catamaran fishing boats pulling in their nets as flocks of birds fly down from their roosts to feed in the shallows waters. Part of the fun of seeing the country by bike is the chance to interact with the local community; we will end the cycling today at a village.

After ride jumping onto the bus we will transfer to Matale, the center of the spice growing region, for lunch at one of the many spice gardens. We will learn about the aromas and flavours of cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg and pepper as well as how they are used for their healing properties and in cooking.

You can enjoy the activates in Spice Garden.

After visit Spice garden we head to Sri Lanka's hill capital - the small lakeside city of Kandy.

Kandy - Sri Lanka's hill capital, stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, is our most beautiful town. It is 488 meters above sea level and next to Colombo is Sri Lanka's most visited place.

Check in to the hotel, evening at Leisure.

The ride today is mostly flat on tarmac road with some sections leading into gravel tracks. There are also two short climbs.

Day 08 : Kandy

After Breakfast visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden at Peradeniya.

Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 4000 species of plants, including of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.[2] Attached to it is the National Herbarium. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with a 200-day annual rainfall. It is managed by the Division of National Botanic Gardens of the Department of Agriculture.

In the evening do the city tour in Kandy.

Visit the sacred Temple of the tooth Relic of the lord Buddha, Which is a world Heritage site. The Holy Temple is Nestled among hills and located by a lake.

Picturesque Kandy has long been an important religious center of the Sinhalese and a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists.

After visit to the Temple of the tooth relic explore the town center's old shops, antique and gem specialists or the bustling market.

Day 09 : Kandy / Haputale

Today you head to Haputale in the highlands, a stirring land of lush tea plantations, majestic peaks and rushing waterfalls. Haputale was one of the favourite haunts of the tea millionaire Sir Thomas Lipton.

After Breakfast visit the tea factory where you will gain insight into the manufacturing process as well as an opportunity to taste and purchase the different grades of Ceylon Tea.

After Breakfast we transfer to Beruwala for your beach staying.

In the evening relax and unwind on the tropical coastline of Beruwala.

Day 12 : Beruwala

After Breakfast visit to the town of Galle on the south coast is also highly recommended. Built by the Dutch in 1663, the 36-hectare Fort is surrounded on three sides by the ocean. Just wandering the old walls and streets at random yields one architectural surprise after another as the structures dating back through the centuries can be admired. Its glories have earned the Fort status as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Day 13 : Departure

All good things must come to an end, your chauffeur guide with comfortably take you to the international airport in time for your return flight.
